Water Hammer Arrestors

The PLUMBERSMATES range of Water Hammer Arrestors includes both copper and Stainless Steel versions. They are approved by PDI, IAPMO and ASSE in sizes AA through to F. Our Water Hammer Arrestor Valves have been designed to ensure long life with superior shock absorbing performance at a competitive cost.

DEFINITION OF WATER HAMMER
Water Hammer is the term used to define the destructive forces, pounding noises and vibration which develop in a piping system when a column of non-compressible liquid flowing through a pipeline is stopped abruptly. The tremendous forces generated at the point of stoppage can be compared in effect, to that of an explosion.
We provide our customers with the unique benefit of total traceability on every Water Hammer Arrestor Valve we manufacture.
On completion of manufacture every valve is individually tested and uniquely coded for future reference.
When valves are shipped to
a distributor, we also provide a CD-ROM with all the test information for every individual valve in the consignment.
This system provides total traceability and assures the quality of every valve our customer receives, ensuring our customers do not receive returned damaged valves from their market.

CAUSE OF WATER HAMMER
The common causes of water hammer or shock, is the quick closure of electrical, pneumatic, spring loaded valves as well as the quick hand closure of taps etc. The speed of the last 15% of the closure is directly related to the intensity of the pressure
WATER HAMMER NOISE
Although noise is generally associated with the occurrence of water hammer it can occur without audible sound. Quick closure always creates some degree of shock, with or without the noise.

SYSTEM PROTECTION
The installation of the correctly sized Water Hammer Arrester Valve drastically reduces the damage throughout the water distribution system, as well as alleviating the irritating banging and thumping noises.

THE WATER HAMMER ARRESTER VALVE
A Water Hammer Arrester Valve is basically an engineered gas charged chamber. It works in a similar manner to a car shock absorber responding to an uneven road surface except it responds to uneven pipeline pressure. A Water Hammer Arrester always has either a piston or diaphragm separating the gas precharge from the fluid.

The SS Series is manufactured utilising the superior corrosion resistance of Stainless Steel. This range is highly recommended in areas where water quality is poor, which will result in the destruction of the internal wearing surface of copper Arresters.
Stainless Steel Valves are also less prone to external damage; they may be used in externally corrosive atmospheres and are also recommended for applications where hygiene is important.
The SS Series of Water Hammer Arrester Valves can also be used on many other fluids.

AREAS OF PARTICULAR SIGNIFICANCE WITH WATER HAMMER PROBLEMS:
• Solenoid Valves
• Spring loaded tapware and valves
• Long runs of pipework
• High line pressures
• Ceramic disc tapware and valves
• Worn Valves
• Non Return Valves
• Re-circulating Hot Water Systems (Not recommended)
• Pumps
• Hot Water Cylinders surge
The Cu Series is manufactured utilising cost effective Copper Tube.
Copper will provide a reliable internal wearing surface providing good water quality is maintained.
These Valves are not recommended for use with any other fluids.
